A Jar Of Pickles

Climatologists look at an absorption spectrum for the atmosphere and see a dip for carbon dioxide showing some absorption. They then make a leap in their minds from absorption to heating. They say absorption means heating.

They missed the fact that all matter emits radiation constantly. To focus on absorption without a concern for emission is a disconnect from the science of the subject.

For this reason, a so-called greenhouse gas is no different from any other object. Everything is constantly absorbing and emitting radiation.

A jar of pickles on a kitchen table is absorbing and emitting radiation constantly. Is it heating the kitchen?

Jar Of Pickles

There is no more of a reason to assume a so-called greenhouse gas can heat the atmosphere than to assume a jar of pickles can heat a kitchen.

The whole concept of global warming is based on the assumption that fingerprint radiation absorbed by carbon dioxide does something different than normal radiation, which is black body radiation. For energy transfer, there is no difference other than that fingerprint radiation is much weaker than black body radiation. The fingerprint radiation absorbed by CO2 is 8% of the bandwidth of the Earth's black body radiation.

Pickles are made of organic molecules. All organic molecules absorb fingerprint radiation, which is used to identify them. They still don't add heat to anything.
