Lack Of Judgement

It's surprising how consistently extreme errors are replicated. There should be more awareness of how ridiculous extreme errors are. Not knowing is poor judgement (proper spelling) with no thought to the ridiculousness.

This effect shows up dramatically in global warming claims, such as the drought in California and melting of Arctic ice. Isn't there something wrong in not noticing that California cannot be influence by greenhouse gasses any differently than any other state or location?

Arctic ice is extremely telling, since there is a lot of history and science to that subject. Arctic ice is being evaluated as a measure of carbon dioxide heating the planet. Isn't it necessary to know how you get from carbon dioxide to melting ice? There is no scientific way to make that connection.

There is nowhere near enough heat in carbon dioxide effects to influence Arctic ice by any analysis. Heat has a quantity to it. The quantity can be viewed as calories or BTUs. Recently, joules are the unit of heat used, even though that term is technically a measure of kinetic energy (foot-pounds) rather than heat. An assumption about the relationship between kinetic energy and heat is needed to refer to heat as joules, while the error in the energy equation corrupts the relationship.

There could not possibly be enough quantity of heat in anything carbon dioxide in the air does to influence large masses of ice or ocean water by the slightest amount, as explained on the heat capacity page. How could anyone go down the path of analysis assuming a connection when none is possible? It shows that judgement is dependent upon an evaluation of all related realities, which sometimes requires a broad knowledge base but should simply involve looking at all of the factors involved.

To assume that a few miniscule molecules of carbon dioxide in the air could be influencing global masses of ice or water is like assuming that hurricanes are caused by butterflies migrating.

There are a large number of geological effects influencing the thawing and freezing of Arctic ice. Arctic ice thaws once in awhile for no known reasons. It was thawing in 1903-1906, when Amundsen attempted to chart a "Northwest Passage," and then froze back up.

One reason why the effect of Arctic ice thawing is dramatic is because warming Pacific Ocean water flows over the Bering Strait to heat the Arctic. Normally, ice blocks the Bering Strait at least part of the year, so warm water thawing the ice produces a dramatic effect.

Northern Pacific Ocean water warms occasionally for a variety of reasons including volcanoes on the ocean floor and warm water being swept eastward by winds, as the El Nino effect does. All in all, there is continuous warming of the oceans, as solar energy accumulates in oceans between ice ages. Nothing but an ice age will cool the oceans back down.
