August 9, 2020 Conservatives replace knowledge with hunch. Trump says his gut feeling is more reliable than expert knowledge. What do conservatives assume the purpose of 500 years of scientific knowledge is? It has no value to them, because they don't understand it. When Republican governors opened their states to partying, they assume the virus had subsided. No scientists told them that; it was a hunch. There was an extreme amount of science saying otherwise, but it was invisible to conservatives. Hunch, of course, has no complexity to it. Adding complexity is swamp. It means humans were wrong in assuming science and education were relevant. Power mongering is that way. It's a substitute for intelligence. So it is highly reduced in complexity. Destroying and subduing enemies through domination requires no complexities. Without a reality basis, not only are decisions misdirected, they lack checks on morality. Otherwise, the dictates of reality remove a lot of moral responsibilities, but without the dictates of reality, the morality of decisions becomes optional. Optional means good or bad choices can be made. So lack of reality creates a greater demand upon moral standards. Not meeting those demands results in morality drift which becomes habitual and shapes purposes. Corruption becomes expeditious. It's too easy to make someone else pay the price of incompetence—like ripping more people off and obstructing the solutions to problems (Think EPA being trashed.), which characterizes the corruptness of conservatives. |
