There is no scientific logic to assuming methane is a stronger greenhouse gas. If methane absorbs radiation more readily than carbon dioxide, the radiation has to be available to be absorbed. It isn't.

The radiation that so-called greenhouse gases absorb has to be emitted by the surface of the earth. The sun's radiation is too high of a frequency. Those gases absorb infrared radiation. The sun doesn't give off infrared radiation, because it is too hot.

Only colder substances give off infrared radiation, and they don't give off much radiation at all. The average temperature of the Earth's surface is said to be 15°C (59°F), which is quite chilly. A person needs to wear a coat when the air is that temperature.

Such small amounts of radiation get absorbed for carbon dioxide by the time the radiation travels ten meters from the Earth's surface. That distance was determined by a German physicist, Heinz Hug.

In a chemistry laboratory, methane absorbs radiation more strongly than carbon dioxide. But the atmosphere is nothing resembling a chemistry laboratory. What is the meaning and relevance of "more strongly"? It has no meaning in the atmosphere, because there is so little radiation available that it all gets absorbed. More methane cannot absorb more radiation, because more radiation does not exist. The Earth's surface does not emit that much radiation.

The effect is called saturation. It means all available radiation is absorbed. While saturation occurs in ten meters of travel for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the distance is much shorter for methane. It might be one meter. Doubling the methane would then cause all of the radiation to be absorbed in one half meter. Shortening the distance is not increasing the heat.

Scientists became aware of saturation for carbon dioxide more than a century ago. It was another reason why real scientists never accepted the concept of global warming caused by so-called greenhouse gases. But incompetent scientists could not be told. They continued to promote the falsehoods in the background, until the 1970s, when nonscientists and journalists got involved and brought the fake science to the surface.
