There are a number of characteristics of corruption that are unique to corruption and serve as definitive criteria for corruption. Most basically, corruption starts with, and is based on, the assumption that if a person could prevail against others it would solve his problems. Down the line a short ways is the assumption—the rule—that there is no sin but the truth about sin.

The problem is, too many persons refuse to defy the rule. The rule is more than visible in journalism, where corruption needs to be watered down or soft-soaped. Mustn't upset the apple cart with too harsh of a truth. In fact, some analysts define the Trump effect as an attempt to upset the apple cart of ordered existence by persons who feel left out. So there is a feeling by a lot of persons that upsetting the apple cart with truth would do something similar in destroying ordered existence.

That attitude is a product of corruption, not a rational conclusion. A highly corrupt environment causes corrupt realities and attitudes to diffuse through society in an illogical manner. So the purpose here is to describe the logic of the influence of truth upon the social order.

One of the most important facts about corruption which corrupters continuously defy is, the reason why they need to lie is the reason why the lie matters. Corrupters try to trivialize their corruption pretending that it doesn't matter, while they prevent anyone from correcting them. They are extremely determined to prevail with something that they pretend is too trivial to worry about. Their determination shows why it is not trivial.

Trump defied every law that applied to him as an ethic in life in his determination to prevail with his standard of incompetence and corruptness. In doing so, he pretended that defying laws was too trivial to be relevant. In the news now is his systematic determination to destroy documents in defiance of the law. When he was being impeached for defying election laws to gain an advantage by using the power of the presidency for political advantage, conservatives said his doing so was nothing but "a life-style dispute." Defying laws was too trivial to conservatives to go along with the impeachment in the Senate.

Trivialization of destructivity allows destructivity to prevail. Fascism is rapidly transforming into Nazism in society. Neither fascism nor Nazism is a one-man operation. Each is a collective property of society. Fascism is the socialization of corruption. Nazism is the farthest end-point of fascism that can be achieved, before the Nazis self-destruct by destroying their exploits.

Yet a large part of the journalism is down-playing the present state of corruption, as if the disputes were no different than they were in previous times and critics were equal to the corrupters in creating a polarized society.

Truth corrects all of that, because truth is the only force corrupters cannot defy. Instead of correcting the fascism with truth, the corruption is being sustained or perpetrated in contempt for the truth.

In other words, the present state of fascism is being sustained as a better alternative than producing the truth about it. The longer that process continues, the more corruption in society and the more intolerable the truth is to corrupters. Maybe they should have done a lot more correcting a long time ago. But since they didn't, they aren't going to start now. That means they prefer the approaching Nazism to the results truth produces.

Corrupters assume they have their own truth and their opponents are imposing something onto them. In fact, that is what they have been focussed on as a theme in justifying their criminality—that their enemies are doing nothing but persecuting them with a "witch hunt."

Corrupters don't know what the truth is for complex realities which include abstractions (knowledge). So they assume versions of realities of opponents are nothing but weapons used against them. And therefore, realities must be aligned upon motives, which means their motives, not someone else's.

The universe determines what truth is. Humans have nothing to say about it. It's not arbitrary or subjective. The definition of truth is the communicated representation of unified reality. Only the universe produces unified reality. Unified reality includes all of the laws of the universe and extensions of them through material phenomena including life. Life is unified reality.

That means truth is determined by consistent relationships between realities. Unified means consistent relationships between realities. The most important realities are the most basic realities, which means the ones which influence the most other realities.

Therefore, producing truth is not only an evaluation of relationships between realities, it is explanation of the relationships to clarify and stabilize them, which is rationality. If corrupters assume there is something unfair in someone's claim of truth, all they have to do is produce the explanations for the surrounding realities to prove what truth is. Of course, they don't have a clue as to what the surrounding realities are, which is why they assume their absurdities are truth when aligned upon their motives.
