Why Not Positivism

May 4, 2022

Positivism is a crutch. It eliminates the need to evaluate. There is no good substitute for evaluation. When someone guesses, they always guess wrong.

What positivism is is looking to consensus or power to determine what reality is. Consensus is a form of power. Power always corrupts. One could theorize power not corrupting, but doing so is to rationalize away the power and transform it into rationality.

Power looks like rationality to the unwary, but they are opposites. Ordered existence is required for handling complexities, while order is too easily converted into power. The transition into power is almost imperceptible. Unwary persons don't see the difference. Yet that difference is what created the fascism problem that is destroying society.

Power is the ability to influence through force. Force is always a conflict with reality by definition. Unwary persons don't notice the transition from reality to force, and they assume that some force is necessary. No force is every constructive, unless it must respond to overwhelming force which cannot be tolerated. There must be a major line between the complete absence of force and the necessary response to force through police type actions. It's not something that should normally occur, as shown by the results of the vigilantes.

Therefore, positivism is an attempt to latch onto something unjustifiable: the use of power. In doing so, the negatives of corruption are denied. In the highly complex society that exists, the negatives are too pervasive and destructive to be denied.

Persons who have a habit of promoting positivism become deniers of hazards or dangers. And they warp their own characteristics doing so, because the first persons to be convinced by false realities are the persons who promote them. In other words, liars and rationalizers rapidly convince themselves more than they convince others.

That's why Christ said to look and listen to acquire understanding and judge for yourselves what is right. Positivism is the opposite. It's buying into someone else's corruption.
