The Absolutism Response

June 13, 2022

More and more, absolutism is the fix for mis-statements. That means firing instead of reasoning.

Didn't anyone notices that firing is the only art of Trump's deal? Trump is the definition of what to avoid.

But the absolutist fix has been increasing over several decades, as society deteriorates into the fascism that defines Trump.

The social order was working better when responses were more reasonable. The reactiveness of absolutism is the opposite of reasonable.

The increasingly prevalent assumption is that when someone says something wrong, there must be a proportional response which shows the harm being done and the character flaw that produced it. Nothing less than maximum absoluteness in the response is assumed to be required.

The maximum absoluteness is a brush-off of responsibilities as a manifestation of an inability to produce rationality. Rationality is demanding. It requires some involvement in the process including evaluation of related realities and commitment to the results if not some responsibility for the cause.

All of that involvement is sanctimoniously flushed down the drain with the absoluteness of the response. It couldn't be Trump's signature response otherwise, because he is as disconnected from responsible and rational results as anyone can get.

The pretense is that the absoluteness is a greater commitment to fixing unacceptable social problems; but that attitude is fakery. It's dodging real solutions, as shown by the fact that problems of that nature keep increasing while adding secondary problems in the unjustifiable responses.

Constructivity is analogous to the medical ethic of "first do no harm." The instant firing is like cutting off an arm for everyone who enters a medical facility. The doctors use extremely elaborate procedures to prevent doing harm. It shows that unwillingness to get involved in complex demands is an attempt to shed responsibilities in a way that increases the problems.

Not the least problem with the absolutist shedding of responsibilities is that the persons who react that way are as apt to be wrong and corrupt as their target. This was shown when Whoopi Goldberg made a scientifically correct and enlightening comment on the social manifestation of Nazism that goes beyond racism. The reaction was mindless in assuming there could be no social manifestation of the Nazi reaction that goes beyond racism. The absence of a rational discussion shows the mindlessness of absolutizers. Mindless absolutizers are always wrong.

Endless highly qualified, rational and constructive persons have been fired for simple statements which more often than not produced an unintended interpretation or sometimes were common slang that didn't get omitted soon enough. It's part of the breakdown of the social order that is occurring with the surge in fascism.

Even the actual and complex corruptions require a reasonable attempt to do a correction. Usually, corrections are possible; and if not, there still needs to be a proper representation of the nature of the problem through rationality.
