There is only one good source of water left in the US, which is the Missouri River. Missouri River water could be used to mitigate the water shortage caused by the drought in the western US. Instead the water is being squandered on barging.

Barging is a nineteenth century absurdity that is still being maintained for entertainment purposes. The Mississippi River is kept artificially high for barging with small locks and dams. A lot of Missouri River water is used for that purpose. When heavy rains occur in the Midwest, flooding results, because water cannot flow over the mini dams fast enough.

Not only is the Missouri River water being squandered on barging, it's going to become unusable when the oil pipeline breaks that goes under it twice for no good reason. All pipelines break every few years. That means a pipeline within fifty miles of the Missouri River is going to cause crude oil to flow down the ravines and into the Missouri River which is about four hundred feet lower than the surrounding terrain.

The oil pipeline could have gone around the Missouri River and down the James River valley which is flat as a pancake and no problem for pipeline breakage. There already is an oil pipeline going down the James River valley. It broke several years ago with no problem. The oil was simply scooped up. The new Dakota pipeline could have followed the same path as that pipeline and not have been much longer.

No one knows how long the drought in the West will last. It's the type of drought that occurs about once every thousand years. Instead of doing something realistic about it, like sending Missouri River water out west, the plan is to squander more water in Phoenix by building two new chip factors which require huge amounts of water.

It's irresponsible and stupid to waste water during such a drought. There should be about a hundred billion dollars per year being spent on agriculture and water problems during the western drought. Next to nothing is being spent on the problem.

The Nature Of The Drought

The millennial drought took form across the northern hemisphere (I don't know what has been happening in the southern hemisphere) as the air currents stopped moving causing high pressure air masses to take form.

When air stops moving, heat convects upward increasing the air pressure. Heat accumulates in the resulting high pressure air masses. The combination of heat and pressure prevents precipitation from occurring. So moisture accumulates, while the air mass increases in size and pushes upward beyond the normal height of the troposphere.

Eventually, either cooling or lowering of air pressure causes the accumulated moisture in high pressure air masses to precipitate out and cause flooding. So the droughts are followed by floods.

The droughts won't end until the air starts moving properly. Moving air dissipates the high pressure air masses and cools land masses, as air over oceans moves over land. That means the droughts won't end until the high pressure air masses start to move and get replaced by normally moving air.

What then causes the air to stop moving and accumulate as high pressure air masses? It certainly isn't carbon dioxide in the air. To assume carbon dioxide producing heat is the cause of droughts is beyond infantile stupidity. Carbon dioxide cannot stop air from moving and take form as high pressure air masses. Why aren't the experts clarifying the subject? Because real scientists have been shoved out of the process if not fired, while frauds took over everything.
