The Problem Of Bureaucracies

May 1, 2021

The problem with bureaucracies is that everything they do is in the dark behind closed doors. It's a truism that nothing constructive can come out of the darkness of absence of accountability. If anyone tries to solve problems in the bureaucracies, they become a whistle blower and get fired or thrown into prison.

The problem of not allowing corrections in the darkness of unaccountability is that the degree of corruption continuously increases when corrections are not possible. Most of the bureaucracies have become nonfunctional for that reason. Some of the administrative routines can function properly if not too complex. Wherever judgement and evaluation are required, nothing but corruption is allowed to prevail.

In science and technology, bureaucracies have acquired a degree of influence over results. They don't have the slightest ability to meet the demands. A simple example is the bureaucrats claiming electric motors get 96% efficiency and therefore electric vehicles are ten times or more efficient than gasoline power autos. Anyone who assumes an electric motor gets 96% efficiency should have flunked every science course they have ever taken. Laws of physics do not allow more than 40% efficiency in such a transformation at normal temperatures, besides the fact that anyone who has ever done routine maintenance work knows electric motors produce a lot of heat, which is wasted energy lowering efficiency. Such corruptions could not easily persist without corrupt bureaucracies promoting them.

The bureaucrats pick up and promote science errors often creating patterns which are distributed throughout the states. An example is a rationalization for global warming which claims so-called greenhouse gases caused the temperature of the atmosphere to increase by 33°C. Every state and local government had a web site with that claim at the top of few years ago being promoted by the federal bureaucracies.

That 33°C number seems to be a clincher for science flunkies, as indicated by its being at the top of propaganda web sites. Where it came from is an analysis which says the temperature of the surface of the earth would be -18°C without an atmosphere, but it is 15°C with an atmosphere. Therefore, the atmosphere increased the temperature by 33°C, which was due to greenhouse gases. With that much influence by greenhouse gases, one could expect a lot of influence by an addition of a small amount of greenhouse gases.

What that analysis missed is that most of the heat in the atmosphere gets there through conduction, convection and evaporation, not absorption of radiation by greenhouse gases. To miss the conduction, convection and evaporation is getting too much wrong to be basing official propaganda on it.

In science, part of the problem is that laboratory flunkies go into the bureaucracies and they try to dominate real scientists through impositions. Science is too abstract and complex for most of the persons who go into science. So they replicate and still get degrees while knowing nothing of science. There has to be a lot wrong with the whole process for that to happen.

How to get openness and accountability into the bureaucracies is hard to imagine. Politicians are too absorbed in overwhelming problems to take on such an abstract and illusive task.
